New single out today. Blog favourite Mdou Moctar is a Tuareg songwriter and musician based in Agadez, Niger. According to Wikipedia, “The Tuareg people are a large Berber ethnic confederation. They principally inhabit the Sahara in a vast area stretching from far southwestern Libya to southern Algeria, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. Penya are 4 piece percussion driven electronic quartet led by producer and multi-instrumentalist Magnus PI (previous #SOTD here: Why So Angry (Edit)). And Msafiri Zawose is a prominent contemporary Gogo musicians, a style music which relies heavily on the zeze and ilimba in combination with distinct lyrical harmonies. Afriqua – Burn
USA born (Hampton, Virginia), now Berlin-based producer Adam Longman Parker released his first full-length LP ‘Colored’ last year under the artist name Afriqua. The album “is a celebration of the unifying power of Black culture through the prism of electronic music”. Released on R&S Records.
The Colours That Rise – Home Time
The Colours That Rise are a London based production duo, comprised of Simeon Jones and Nathanael Williams. The duo’s previous “2020” EP was released back in 2017 on Ross From Friends’ Breaker Breaker label. (Ross From Friends’ previous #SOTDs here: Pale Blue Dot and here: John Cage (Edit).) The new The Colours That Rise release instead comes out on Rhythm Section International (Peckham, London based label established by Bradley Zero).
