Kutmah (pronounced koot/mah, real name Justin McNulty) started Sketchbook as a radio show on Dublab in Los Angeles, California. A year later, Sketchbook became the first all instrumental beat night in LA. And back in 2018, Kutmah released an excellent celebratory compilation ‘Sketchbook Radio Archives, Vol 1’ which I still cannot stop replaying (featuring previous #SOTD: Darkhouse Family – Moving 909s). Now Kutmah releases a new 10 inch on the All City record label, based in Dublin, Ireland. This Kutmah release closes off a series of 10 inches that All City made in LA heads back in 2010… Kutmah was supposed to be on that batch of releases but it has taken until now to finalise the production.
Green-House is the project of Los Angeles based artist Olive Ardizoni, with additional keyboard, production, and artwork by Michael Flanagan. The album ‘Six Songs for Invisible Gardens’ is designed as a communication with both plant life and the people who care for them. Out on Leaving Records, music label founded by LA producer and Low End Theory member Matthewdavid in 2008.
Gnome Beats is the Los Angeles flamenco guitar player and producer Timo Ceniceros. Taken from the new album ‘Las Formas En Flujo’ (translation. ‘The Forms in Flux’), which was recorded over the last two and a half years. Thomas Wilson is Sweatson Klank (DJ Take) is an American producer, DJ, curator and music supervisor residing in Los Angeles, California. His latest ‘Good Days’ EP has just been released on the Friends of Friends Music label. Previous Sweatson Klank #SOTD here: Smile.
Bonobo is Simon Green, the Brighton (UK) musician, producer and DJ now based in Los Angeles. This track sees Bonobo team up with Innov Gnawa, a traditional Moroccan Gnawa music band based in New York City and fronted by Gnawa musician Mâallem Hassan Ben Jaâfer. Lionmilk (aka Moki Kawaguchi) is a jazz pianist, composer, and producer from Los Angeles, who combines elements of oddball tropicalia, bossa jazz, blistering metal doom-scapes and melancholy stoner rock. Taken from the upcoming release Visions in Paraíso, the first of three albums underway from the collaboration of Lionmilk and Leaving Records. Available to pre-order on Bandcamp, and a great back catalogue on SoundCloud.
Los Angeles producer Elusive returns to Dome of Doom with the new album Bonsai Tree. Recordings took place during November and December of last year at Elusive’s home studio in Venice, with features from LA-based musicians Ian Roller (saxophone) and Gabe Steiner (trumpet). The whole album is definitely worth a listen, available on Bandcamp.
