sir Was is Swedish. I know nothing more. His new ‘Letter EP’ serves as a post-script to his recent second album ‘Holding On To a Dream’. The new ‘Letter EP’ comes out on British indie-label Memphis Industries on 28 February.
Tetsumasa Okumura is a Japanese electronic musician and DJ, based in Berlin. His new ‘On The Way’ EP features the track ‘君の上 (Jump)’, with vocals by another Berlin-based Japanese DJ and producer — Peachonfuse. And this remix comes from a third Japanese DJ, Trackmaker and Painter (this time based in Nagoya): Takahide Higuchi, better known as 食品まつり(Shokuhin Matsuri) a.k.a foodman. Out now on Tetsumasa’s own Berlin-based record label SAIDAN.
Clark (Christopher Stephen Clark) is an English electronic musician, with a career spanning nearly 20 years and 10 albums with Warp Records. This track comes from Clark’s 2019 ‘Kiri Variations’ album, released on his own Throttle Records label.
Mdou Moctar’s previous #SOTD Wiwasharnine was one of my favourite songs of 2019. I just love his unconventional reinterpretation of the Tuareg guitar and Saharan music. Mdou Moctar’s recent releases have been on Sahel SoundsRecords, but this 2012 track comes from a ‘Mdou Moctar Covers EP’ released by BRAINSTORM. This EP featured two reinterpreations of Mdou Moctar’s music by BRAINSTORM, as well as two Mdou Moctar’s covers by Mdou Moctar.
‘Ema by the Sea’ is Joseph Carvell’s debut album under his Pink Shabab moniker. Joseph is a bass player and singer/songwriter from London, and bassist of indie pop quartet Batsch. The new album is available now on the Berlin-based Karaoke Kalk label.
Kutcha Butcha is the solo project of (four times Mercury nominee, and Polar Bear collaborator) Sebastian Rochford, where Seb writes/performs/produces/mixes everything himself. From the album NDYA, the first of four limited edition releases that Seb has planned for 2019 (the first on CD, the second being a download, the third on cassette and the fourth on vinyl). Out on (Seb’s own?) aptly named Half Baked Bread Records (because “Kutcha Butcha” literally means Half Baked Bread), NDYA is available from Bandcamp.
Composed by Aidan Peterson and performed by Instupendo, an indie/electronic ambient artist-producer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Instupendo has self-released his new antipop 7-track EP ‘Boys by Girls’, available as a limited 100-run Silver Glitter Cassette (with Bonus Track), or Digital Album from Bandcamp.
KOKOKO! is a collective born in Kinshasa capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, consisting of musical instrument inventors from the Ngwaka neighbourhood, electronic producer débruit, Makara Bianko (aka the Lingwala devil) and his dancers from the Lingwala neighbourhood. Their previous single Azo Toke has been a previous #SOTD (30 Nov 2018). Taken from the debut album ‘Fongola’, forthcoming on Transgressive Records.
